Products for category Gantry & Crane Systems
Gantry and crane systems move heavy loads within a defined workspace. They reduce manual handling and lower the risk of damage to people, product, and equipment. The right system depends on your loads, your site, and how often you lift.

Stratalign supplies workstation, monorail, portable, jib, and davit cranes, along with the track and components that support them. Each system is specified to the job, drawing on decades of engineering experience supporting New Zealand manufacturers.
Every project starts with a free on-site consultation. We assess how loads are moved, positioned, and accessed in your operation. We then specify a system that fits the space and the task, and gets the specification right the first time.
The right crane depends on four things: your loads, your space, whether you can add fixed structure, and how the load needs to move. The five systems below each suit a different situation.
A workstation bridge crane suits repetitive lifting inside a fixed work cell. The bridge, trolley, and hoist move the load across all three axes. Fixed infrastructure is optional: the system suspends from the building or mounts on a free-standing gantry. Load range extends to around 2,000kg.
See the full workstation bridge crane range.
A jib crane serves a single lifting station within a circular work area. The arm rotates to move light to medium loads, so it fits tight spaces and works alongside larger cranes. Wall-mounted units rotate around 200 degrees; column-mounted units, 270 to 360 degrees. A portable variant is also available.

A monorail crane handles regular, precise lifts that follow the same path each time. The hoist runs on a fixed overhead track, which suits production lines and repetitive material flow. This system needs permanent infrastructure, mounted to the ceiling or its own support structure. The load range extends to around 1,500kg.
See our monorail crane systems for fixed-path lifting.
A portable crane suits sites with limited space and changing load positions. It runs on casters, so operators move it to the load rather than fix lifting to one spot. It works well for fabrication, outdoor yards, and hard-to-reach machinery. No fixed infrastructure is required. Load range extends to around 1,500kg, with lift heights to around 4 metres.
See our portable crane range.
A davit crane handles loading and unloading in bays, at the edge of a structure, or in remote positions. The arm turns through a 360-degree arc, which suits loading flatbed trucks and working over an edge. It comes as a fixed-arm or portable unit, with capacity configured to the task.
See our davit crane range for site-specific lifting.
| Crane System | Fixed Infrastructure? | Typical Load Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workstation bridge | Optional (building or free-standing gantry) | Up to ~2,000kg | Repetitive lifting across a defined area |
| Jib | Wall/column fixed, or portable | Light to medium | A dedicated lifting point in a circular area |
| Monorail | Yes (permanent overhead track) | Up to ~1,500kg | Precise, repeated lifts along a set path |
| Portable | No (moves on casters) | Up to ~1,500kg | Changing positions, tight or outdoor spaces |
| Davit | Fixed arm or portable | Configured to the task | Loading bays, edges, remote work |
Specifying the right crane is the first step. Keeping it safe over its working life matters as much. Our overhead crane safety best practices cover load management and hazard prevention. Our crane inspection checklist sets out what to check and how often.
The main types are workstation bridge cranes, jib cranes, monorail cranes, portable cranes, and davit cranes. Each suits a different combination of load, workspace, and movement. Workstation and monorail systems run on a fixed structure for repeated lifts. Jib cranes serve a circular area from a single point. Portable cranes move around a site on castors. Davit cranes handle edge and loading-bay work. The comparison table above sets out how they differ.
Stratalign supplies gantry and crane systems across New Zealand from our Auckland base. We specify each system to your loads, site, and duty cycle rather than selling off a shelf, and support it from consultation through to after-sales service. Contact the team to discuss your application.
It depends on the type. Monorail cranes need a permanent overhead track. Workstation bridge cranes can hang from the building or stand on a free-standing gantry, so fixed structure is optional. Jib cranes mount to a wall or floor column, though a portable variant is available. Portable cranes need no fixed infrastructure and move on castors. If your site cannot take a permanent structure, tell us, and we will specify accordingly.
Start with four factors: the weight of your loads, the space you work in, whether you can add fixed structure, and how the load needs to move. Those narrow the choice to one or two types. From there, duty cycle and site conditions confirm the specification. Our guide to choosing the right type of crane system covers this in more depth, and our team will confirm the right unit during a consultation.
A gantry crane carries its own supporting structure, either fixed legs or a mobile frame on castors, so it needs no building support. An overhead crane runs on rails built into the building structure. Gantry systems suit sites that cannot take building loads or need to relocate the crane. Overhead systems suit permanent, high-frequency lifting in a fixed bay.
Load weight, duty cycle, and site layout shape the right gantry crane system choice. Contact the Stratalign team for a free on-site consultation. We will assess your application and specify a system that lifts safely and reliably.
