Hand winches – spur gear and worm gear

Ideal for sites where an occasional winching capability is required, a manual hand winch is, as the name suggests, powered by hand. Lightweight by design, a hand winch gives you the muscle where and when you need it with up to 4,500kg pulling capacity.

There are two types of hand winches available – ‘spur gear’ and ‘worm gear’:

Spur gear hand winches are often seen hoisting loads and are equipped with load pressure brakes that allow the operator to hold the load at a desired height during hoisting and lowering – this results in minimal transmission friction loss and high performance efficiency.

Worm gear hand winches are simpler in design than their spur gear counterparts, with fewer moving parts, and, therefore, superior in terms of endurance and reliability. Worm gear winches are typically self-braking by design, but have a slower line speed than other winch designs.
