Crane Attachments

Your crane can do more than just lift. With the right attachments, it becomes a problem-solver: moving awkward loads with precision, pouring concrete where it’s needed most, or even carrying your team safely to height.

At Stratalign, we supply a full range of crane attachments, all built tough for New Zealand sites. Whatever the challenge, we’ll help you find the attachment that makes every lift safer, faster, and more efficient.

What Are Crane Attachments Used For?

Think of crane attachments as upgrades for your lifting gear. They expand what’s possible on site, helping you:

  • Position heavy or awkward loads with pinpoint control.
  • Move bulk goods, rubbish, or building materials efficiently.
  • Pour concrete evenly into those tricky, hard-to-reach spots.
  • Provide safe, compliant work platforms for maintenance and installation at height.

What are some examples of crane attachments?

With such a large number of crane accessories for lifting equipment available, it is imperative to choose the appropriate attachment to suit your application.

Overhead crane attachments come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Some commonly used crane attachments include:

C hooks

With a counterweight self-balanced structure, C hooks are specialised material handling attachments, designed to handle and lift coils of product in a controlled way.

Spreader beams and bars

Intended to shift the weight profile of a load from bending stress (such as that seen in lifting beams and bars) to compressive and tensile stress, spreader beams and bars are lifted using a two-legged sling at the top, as opposed to a central lifting lug. Crane spreader beams are available in a range of capacities and lengths to suit any application, with varying load capacities from 500kg to 50 tons.

Lifting beams and bars

Lifting beams and bars perform a similar function to the spreader beams and bars, with one exception. Lifting beams and bars lift from the central lifting lug. This system is particularly used where there is a lack of headroom available. Crane lifting beams are also available in a range of capacities and lengths to suit any application, and have varying load capacities from 500kg to 50 tons.

Heavy-duty waste bins

Ranging in volume between 0.75 and 1.8 cubic metres, these specially designed crane-appropriate heavy-duty waste bins are suitable for all waste products. Featuring a space-saving shape allowing the bins to nest inside each other for transport and storage, heavy-duty waste bins are often found on construction sites and are available in many different models and capacities.

Concrete kibbles

Lightweight and yet heavy-duty, overhead crane concrete kibble attachments come in 0.5 to 1 cubic metres variants, and can be used for both bottom and side discharge of concrete with the use of an adjustable chute.

Bulk bag crane jibs

The bulk bag crane jib is designed for quick and easy manoeuvring of bulk bags, with 4 lifting hooks to assist in lifting via an overhead crane or hiab.

Goods cages

If you need to move loose or palletised product into a tricky location, a goods cage could be a great option. Designed for use by either a crane or a forklift, goods cages feature full-width gates for standard square pallets to be placed inside the cage if required, and have crane lugs in the bottom corners to allow the cage to be stacked (three high when empty, two high when full).

Pallet hooks and lifters

Highly adjustable pallet hooks are versatile units which allow pallets to be picked up and moved using an overhead or truck-mounted crane. These units have numerous hook positions for handling pallets of varying weight and size. Load balancing is automatic or alternatively is carried out by positioning the lifting ring to suit the centre of gravity of the load, depending on the model.

Man cages

Often employed by maintenance crews, man cages (otherwise known as crane-lifted work platforms) allow a team of personnel to work safely at heights via a crane and feature built-in risk control measures such as safety harness anchor points.

A Safety Note on the Installation and Operation of Crane Attachments

Crane attachments, whether crane hooks, spreader beams, or cages, should always be operated by trained lifting professionals. Operators must be familiar with the safe use of overhead cranes, lifting equipment, and accessories, as well as the relevant site safety regulations.

As with any heavy machinery, the safe selection and use of crane attachments depend on the application. Choosing the wrong attachment, or installing it incorrectly, can introduce serious risks to both people and property.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when assembling or installing crane attachments, and schedule regular inspections and maintenance to keep them in safe working order.

Cranes are essential in material handling, but on their own, they’re limited in scope. With the right crane attachments, you can expand your crane’s versatility and performance while maintaining safety and efficiency. Every site and task is different, so it’s vital to ensure that your chosen crane attachment suits the load, application, and technical limits of your lifting equipment.

That’s where we come in.
