Forklift man cages (also known as non-integrated work platforms, man baskets, and safety cages) are forklift truck attachments that quickly elevate workers so that they can safely complete jobs at height. By utilising one of the most common pieces of industrial machinery, forklift man cages provide effortless access to heights that may otherwise be inaccessible.
Sturdy, manoeuvrable and precisely engineered, forklift man cages are built to last and ensure the safety of your key resource – your people.
Often employed by maintenance work crews, a forklift man cage is an easy and effective way to reach otherwise inaccessible heights without other means to do so. As an ideal solution for performing occasional or short duration tasks where it is not practical to use scaffolding, elevating work platforms or other similar devices.
Forklift safety cages will save you time and money carrying out tasks such as changing out light bulbs, accessing stock from high and dangerous areas, and general day to day maintenance.
Forklift man cages are often seen in use across industrial environments such as warehouses, manufacturing plants, and engineering workshops.
There are a wide range of forklift man cage attachments available – here is a quick overview of some of the most commonly found forklift man cages and safety gear:
Designed for forklift use to safely carry out tasks of short duration and occasional usage such as maintenance work or stock-take. Suitable for a maximum of two people.
Designed to be used particularly in areas where there is product that reacts adversely to the zinc coating of the standard forklift man cage.
Designed for a quick hitch use to safely carry out tasks such as maintenance work or stock-take. Suitable for a maximum of two people.
Used in conjunction with the standard forklift man cage and is primarily used in areas where extra lift height is required for maintenance work.
In addition to forklift man cages, we also supply harness and lanyard equipment to keep personnel safe when working at height on a raised forklift work platform. The general purpose harnesses come with front and rear ‘D’; attachment points, while the energy absorbing lanyards feature a snap hook connected to the rear dorsal.
As New Zealand’s forklift attachment experts, we supply a great range of forklift man cages with an emphasis on quality and safety. We’ve used our extensive industry knowledge to handpick reputable brands that we know are reliable and safe, ensuring our customers get the right product.
Our durable heavy duty forklift man cages are designed to lift or lower personnel safely effectively, without compromising on safety, and are manufactured strictly in accordance with the AS2359.1 Powered Industrial Trucks Standard.
In the interests of safety, forklifts should not elevate personnel with pallets, rail-less platforms or bare forks – forklift man cages have been designed to accommodate such requirements.
It is recommended that all personnel wear harnesses and lanyards in forklift man cages regardless of whether the forklift tilt controls are locked out. Ensuring your harnesses and lanyards are correctly secured is essential to the safety of your workers.
Worksafe NZ states that forklift platforms should “be operated with the tilt lever on the forklift controls locked out or made inoperable; alternatively, a fall-restraint system comprising a full harness and short lanyard, allowing free movement only within the platform confines, shall be used.”
All forklift man cages supplied by Stratalign are designed in accordance with the requirements of the AS2359.1 Powered Industrial Trucks Standard.
